The Endless Absence

I keep thinking of things I'd like to write about, and then I sit on the idea and do nothing with it.

I really enjoyed the TV series Heroes but found the season finale very unsatisfying. Lots to say there about how it fell short, but haven't gotten it written.

I actually saw Spider-Man 3 (warning, flash and sound) in the theatre at 1:00am on its second day. I LOVED it. As a long-time Spidey fan I thought that they did a great job of capturing the feel of the comics as a movie. Some of the criticisms I've read of the movie seem to want the movie to be a new high-point in movie making and fault it for falling short. However, I was looking for the comic book to come to the big screen and I thought that it was very well done in that respect. Wanted to write more and haven't.

Endless things to say about the ongoing revelations of corruption, incompetence, and generally shameful behaviour of this administration, but I'll leave that to others. Suffice to say that I don't think we've had nearly enough investigations and consequences for this bunch of liars and crooks.

I've finished co-leading a sunday school class on Walter Wink's The Powers That Be with my father which I have enjoyed tremendously. I loved the book when I first read it years ago and it is just as compelling this second time around. Working with my father was terrific because he provided tremendous background and insight for the class and I. Of course, some folks in class are asking what we plan to teach next. Next? I don't remember planning another class.

Seeing as my last entry was in January I'll mention that I've also completed one of the 10 week introductory Disciple Bible Classes this winter, this one focusing on Genesis. This was held at the Embry Hills UMC church (is "UMC church" redundant?) and was very enjoyable, but I liked the Introduction to the New Testament series better. The video materials for the NT series were better than the Genesis series, in particular.

I've also moved from a contractor position to a full-time associate position with my current employer. I'm very happy about this and am hoping that I won't have to look for another job for a long, long time. Over the previous 10 years every job I've had has ended with the company moving out of town or going out of business. This company is one of the biggest in the country and both started and continues to be based here in the big A, so I don't think it is likely to either move or go out of business any time in the near future.

Of course, working full-time has meant that I haven't been able to continue working with the Georgia Aquarium, which is unfortunate because I did enjoy that. However, I have finally had a chance to help work on a Habitat house.

Life has been good. My weight is up, but there's nothing new about that. I'm trying to work up some enthusiasm for both losing weight and working out. The goal is that by next year's planned chorus trip to Italy I'll be in good enough shape to enjoy it.

Well, I guess that's enough for now as it is after midnight and it has been a long day. I'll try not to let the blog go so long unattended in the future, but I've said that before.
